The 2013 Golfweek Best Courses you can play list has eight Myrtle Beach Golf Courses that are “Best In State” of South Carolina. The list has a total of fifteen courses with Myrtle beach leading the way.  Two Golf courses made the North Carolina “Best In State” list. According to Golfweek, the number of courses varies based on course supply, population and level and accessible via resorts.  Below is the list as well as the golf course architects who designed them.

Most golfers visiting Myrtle Beach love mid morning tee times. What they do not know is that most courses do not offer mid morning tee times for one reason, money! The term “Double Tee” means that golf courses will start groups off the 1st and 10th hole at the same time. If a golf course in Myrtle Beach started every group playing that day on the 1st hole, that would leave the back nine open for about 2 hours and 15 mins, depending on the tee time increments each course operates. Why is this a problem? It would leave about 15 open tee times. At 4-golfers per tee time, that is a lot of golfers and a lot of lost revenue.

If a golf course has an average green fee of $50 per golfer, that is an additional $3,000 per day in green and cart fees only that the course is not making.  Not to mention lost revenue in the pro shop and food and beverage. On the higher end, if a golf course has an average green fee of $200 per golfer, that could be $12,000 per day of money lost, again depending on the tee time schedule.

When planing your next Myrtle Beach Golf Package keep in mind, the majority of golf courses do not have open tee times after 9:30 am depending on the course.

This had me thinking about how many golfers want to test their game while here in the Worlds #1 golf destination. Below is a list of “The Five Longest Holes in Myrtle Beach.”

1. Farmstead Golf Links – #18 767 yards Par 6 – Yes that is a Par 6. This hole has golfers teeing off in South Carolina and putting out in North Carolina. With the green featuring water on the left side, this will make or break you game or should I say this hole will let get back the skins you lost with the famous 18th hole press!!!

2. True Blue Plantation – #1, 624 yards, Par 5 – The Longest Par Five in Myrtle Beach gets golfers going as the first hole on this famous Mike Stranz design is a dog leg left with a waste bunker down the entire left side. True Blue is constantly ranked in the “Top 100 Golf Courses in America”.

3. Eagle Nest Golf Club - #17, 616 yards, Par 5 – A challenging straight away long Par 5, that features water in front of the green. The Gene Hamm design only lets the Big Hitters dream about going for this hole in two.

4. Pearl West Golf Links - #14, 614 yards, Par 5 – Designer Dan Maples and alot to work with on this Par 5. This hole features views of the Calabash River down the entire right side. As if that is not enough, their is a pond at the front right of the green and a waste bunker on the left side making accuracy a must. BUT HOLD ON WAIT! One more thing, There is a huge tree in the right center of the fairway that comes into play off the tee.

5. Wicked Stick Golf Links – #11, 611 yards, Par 5 – The only John Daly design in Myrtle Beach, the Par 5 stretches 611 yards from the “Daly Tees”. With water crossing the fairway, any tee shot short of the water leaves over 300 yards to the green. A pond short and right of the green, and a bunker on the right side of the green, this hole is truly a three shot hole as golfers play their third into a double green.

All five of the above golf courses are fun to play and feature their own unique test. I have no problem recommending any of these golf courses. In fact, golfers should consider adding these courses to their up coming Myrtle Beach Golf Packages for the Spring and Fall or even a single round while here in Myrtle Beach with the family for Summer Golf.

However these replays may not be pre-booked. These replays are based on availability and must be played on the same day as morning round. The Sea Trail Golf Package – This 3-round golf package offers Free Replays based on availability after a morning round. Spirit Air adds flights from Baltimore and Philadelphia to Myrtle Beach

Spirit Air, a low cost carrier the flies in and out of Myrtle Beach has recently announced non-stop service to Myrtle Beach from Baltimore and Philadelphia. The flights will be seasonal are scheduled to begin on April 25th and end on November 6th, 2013.

Flights from the city of  Super Bowl 47 Contenders  will depart each day at 10:45 am and arrive in Myrtle Beach at 12:10 pm. Flights are scheduled to depart to Baltimore, aka BWI  at 5:20 pm and arrive at 6:40 pm

Fights from the PHL airport in Philadelphia, will leave the “City of Brotherly Love” at 7:25 am and arrive at “The Golf Capital of The World” at 9:00 am.  Flights are scheduled to depart at 9:50 am and arrive at 11:25 am.

With the arrival and departure times strategically planned for a round of golf as soon as leaving the airport. This allows golfers coming to Myrtle Beach to add an extra round for their Myrtle Beach Golf Package at courses like Arrowhead Country Club, International World Tour Golf Links, and River Oaks Golf Plantation.
