Wide Fairways, Lots of Bunkers and Tricky Layouts make the Love course a unique set of links

Measuring 6,844 yards, the course has been one of the area’s most popular since opening in 2000. And while the course is reminiscent of many other courses depending on the particular hole being played, it’s definitely unlike any other.

With wide fairways reminiscent of Pinehurst and elevated tees, golfers have plenty of leeway in their drives. But with the majority of the course’s greens being on the smallish size and well protected by bunkers, undulating and tiered, the tee shots are about the only shots that leave any such latitude.

And while the fairways are wide, some interesting twists make many of those challenging as well, like the wide No. 4 that’s split by a river. A split fairway is also a feature of No. 13 with a short and iffy route and a long safe route that funnels your ball down the slope toward the dangerous route if not hit accurately.

And of course there are bunkers everywhere and a few other non-golf features like Scottish ruins on holes 4 and 6 that also contribute to making a round of golf here memorable. The 35,000-square-foot Barefoot Clubhouse offers a full service pro shop, dining, a lounge and many other amenities and there’s a 30-acre lighted practice facility, The Range at Barefoot.
