More About the one and only Legends Golf Package
When the favorite bumper sticker of a golf course designer is “My other car is a bulldozer,” you’re assured at least an interesting round of play. And in the case of The Moorlands course at Legends Golf & Resort in Myrtle Beach, it’s a devilishly interesting round. If a fellow golfer tells you to go to hell here, for instance, he’s likely referring to the par-4 16th hole known as Hell’s Half Acre.
Designed by P.B. Dye, youngest son of legendary golf architect Pete Dye, Moorland’s changing elevation and extreme undulations are testament to the earthmoving genes that run in the Dye family. Rated by Golf Digest as one of the country’s toughest 50 courses, Moorland is one of five outstanding courses in the Legends Package, along with Heathland and Parkland in Myrtle Beach, Heritage Club in Pawleys Island and Oyster Bay just up the road in Sunset Beach, NC. And as a hint of the interesting play found on the other courses, it’s worth noting that the only out of bounds on Oyster Bay is a road on the 18th.
The Courses
Heathland – A Tom Doak design, Heathland is a throwback to the origins of the game with holes reminiscent of St. Andrews and other British Isles courses. Holes lay open against the land and are protected by deep greenside bunkers. While deep rough and strategically placed bunkers are challenging enough, the biggest challenge is the unobstructed breeze that constantly flows over the course. When it opened in 1990, Heathland was named one of Golf Magazine’s top 10 new resort courses in the world.
Moorland – While some golfers rate Parkland the most difficult of the Legends courses, others give that honor to Moorland. Still it’s a friendly course to amateurs and favors long hitters. In addition to elevation changes and extreme undulations, deep bunkers, bulkheads and multi- level greens are among the challenges faced here.
Parkland – As its name implies, this Larry Young designed course is distinctly different than the other two Myrtle Beach Legends courses and incorporates the natural terrain with tree-lined fairways, deep-faced bunkers, enormous multilevel greens and vast natural areas.
Heritage – Built on two historic rice plantations along the picturesque Waccamaw River, few courses capture the beauty and charm of the Southern landscape as well. Incorporating centuries old live oaks, lakes and marshes, this course follows the land’s natural contours and features wide rolling fairways with spacious undulating greens.
Oyster Bay – Consistently ranked by Golf Digest as one of the country’s top courses, Oyster Bay features two island greens, marsh-oriented holes, rolling fairways with generous landing areas and sizeable undulating greens.
The Packages
Legends 3-Round Special – Priced from $150, this package includes three rounds of golf at the Legends Myrtle Beach courses and includes buffet breakfast, lunch, two drinks, and cart fees at the course played that day.
Legends 5 Fore 4 Special – Starting at $216, this package offers the same perks as the 3- Round package and fifth round added for free.
Other Considerations
The Legends Golf & Resort offers a 36-acre practice facility with driving range and a 1¼-acre putting green. A massive 42,000-square-foot clubhouse inspired by Scottish castles offers all the amenities any golfer could want, including the Alisa Pub, named by Golf Digest as one of the Top 50 19th holes in the country. The Classic Swing Golf School is also regarded as one of the country’s best. The large Southern colonial clubhouse at Heritage is also particularly noteworthy for its beauty.
