About Indian Wells Golf Club (Murrells Inlet, SC)

A course that will likely require every club, Indian Wells Golf Course in Murrells Inlet puts a premium on accurate shots and features big lakes alongside rolling fairways and plenty of water features.

With four sets of tees, this 6,624-yard yard par-72 course may be relatively short but is packed with a variety of challenging holes that require different clubs and different shots to keep golfers scores from exploding.

Undergoing extensive renovations in 2003, more than 200 trees were removed along with 47 bunkers. All greens were rebuilt and six redesigned. Designed by one of the Grand Strand’s most prolific golf course architects, Gene Hamm, the course has large and high bunkers and trees strategically placed smack dab in the middle of some fairways.

In addition to the imaginative use of water, other features that help set this course apart is its creative use of tees to create different holes from the same hole. No. 3, for instance, places the front tees to the right with trees and a trap blocking the fairway. The middle and back tees offer a clear line of sight to the hole but require a water carry. And a large tree fronts the front tee, making the sight of the pin iffy. One of the course’s best holes, the 18th is also nicknamed “The Grand Strand’s Dream 18” and requires navigating around a river that splits the fairway and a good deal of trickery to get on the green. The clubhouse has all a golfer could want with pro shop, putting green, snack bar and driving range.
