About Players Club at St. James Plantation (Southport, NC)

With a design that maintains the character of its natural setting by incorporating the rolling terrain, pine and hardwood forests, native vegetation and natural water features, the Players Club St. James Golf Course is a beautiful course to play and a beautiful course to behold.

One of master designer Tim Cate’s best, this par-72 course measures 6,940 yards and was designed to be played from the tips, although its four sets of tees accommodate golfers of every level. Combined with the natural landscape, Cate adds berms, bunkers and more to challenge golfers.

But the key to taming this course is off the tees, with length and accuracy required to negotiate narrow fairways through marsh and native forest and get the best spot for approach shots. The greens share a similar degree of undulation with those at the Founders Club and the areas around them are mostly user-friendly, which plenty of room for chipping.

Opened in 1997, the course has a 10,000-square-foot clubhouse with pro shop, snack bar and restaurant. There is also a great practice facility with driving range, chipping and putting green.
