About Possum Trot Golf Course (North Myrtle Beach, SC)

Known as one of the more player-friendly courses along the Grand Strand, Possum Trot Golf Course is a Russel Breeden design first opened in 1968 and is a member of an elite group of the area’s first 10 courses.

Featuring wide fairways and meticulously manicured greens, the course underwent a major renovation just a couple of years back, reopening for play in 2010. Eight greens were rebuilt and drainage was improved around several greens. Several tees were rebuilt and mounds added throughout the course to increase visual interest and assist with drainage.

Four sets of tees make the course playable for golfers of any skill level. In addition to the flat open fairways typical of a traditional coastal layout, the course is dotted with pines, oaks, lakes, ponds, large bunkers and mostly flat and large TifDwarf greens. The course’s signature hole, the par-3, 200-yard No. 13, features water its full length on one side and a brigade of bunkers at the back of the green.

The course is known for having one of the best driving ranges in the area along with one of the best, if not the best, teaching facility, the Simply Great Golf Academy. Kids play free here and the course offers a $59 flat rate promotion for year-round golf. In addition to the driving range and golf school, amenities include a well-stocked pro shop, putting green and snack bar.
