Offering three unique 9-hole tracks, the 27-hole River Oaks golf course was designed by a pair of the Grand Strand’s most prolific golf course architects, Tom Jackson and Gene Hamm.

Cut from 800 pristine acres of Carolina coast that were once a nature preserve, the names of the three nine-hole courses pay tribute to some of the acreage’s former inhabitants – the Otter, Fox and Bear. With three 18-hole options available, it’s possible to play the course three days straight and have each round be a different experience.

With renovations over the past few years, owners removed more than 4,600 trees that opened up all three layouts. And with the stumps of those trees covered with mounds of dirt and sand, the courses have some fairly prominent elevation changes. Reseeding, bunker renovation and better drainage are a few of the other aspects of the renovation. Each of the three tracks is known for different characteristics with the Bear being the longest of the three, the Fox being the trickiest, and the Otter well known for its water hazards. This golf course tests the skills of any golfer because of its challenging shots over the undulating greens. The course offers a pro shop, an exceptional practise area, refreshment cars, snack bar and lounge.
