The challenging product of collaboration between PGA golfer Larry Nelson and golf course architect Jeff Bauer, the Wild Wing Golf Course opened in 1993. The course features contoured fairways, elevated tees, double fairways, generous landing areas, grass bunkers and water hazards carefully placed for maximum effect.
Golf Digest has honored it as one of the 10 best new resort courses in America and its 14th hole was named by the magazine as one of the best 18 there are. The Avocet Course at Wild Wing Plantation plays around 7,100 yards off the back tees to 5,300 of the ladies. Changes in elevation, water or bunkers make themselves known on just about every hole but options are always left open for high handicappers.
