At 6,750 yards from the long tees, the Sea Trail Byrd Course isn’t necessarily a long course, but it is one that requires well thought out shots and the ability to make them. The third 18-hole course to be completed at Sea Trail, this Willard Byrd design features reasonably wide fairways perfect for accurate hitters to use their driver on most holes.
Fairway bunkers are strategically placed so they come into play on just about every hole. And while the design employs a good deal of mounding, most of it tends to help keep shots in the fairway rather than creating obstacles.
There are more than a few doglegs on the course, some with close to 90-degree turns offering skilled players the chance to slice a few strokes. Manmade ponds, including some as large as 20 acres, dot the course but are only in play on a few holes.
The course got new greens in 2008 and since they’ve been much more of a challenge. The course is known not only for providing a great round of golf but for being one of the Grand Strand’s most scenic. Amenities include a golf shop, driving range, putting green and an excellent restaurant.

Understand that the Sea Trail Byrd course is being improved but frankly it was not quite ready for our group!! The construction in the immediate area combined with winds made is much less desirable and my annual group voted it off the island!!
