About Man O' War Golf Club (Myrtle Beach, SC)

With water just about everywhere, the Man O’ War course features water hazards on 16 of its holes, many of them from the 100-acre lake that works its way through the course.

The challenging par-72 course designed by Dan Maples opened in 1996 and features large greens and wide landing areas to somewhat compensate for the wealth of water hazards. A steady breeze also makes a round of golf interesting here. Like sister courses the Witch and the Wizard, this course offers some of the most unique golfing around. Take the course’s toughest hole, for instance, the par-4 9th, a 409-yarder that is entirely on its own island.

Greens can be a bit tricky and if approach shots aren’t accurately placed, a two-putt becomes wishful thinking. The large greens are contoured with shallow bunkers. Man O’ War also features island greens back to back and there are plenty of shots over water, especially on the back course.

Still, Maples has managed to create a course that’s imminently fair by blending holes requiring different skills so that golfers of any level are rewarded. The clubhouse at Man O’ War, which offers a driving range and putting green, is beautifully situated above one of the lakes on the course and offers all the amenities any golfer could wish for.

Thought course was in excellent shape! Greens were very nice rolled well and consistent. Fairways and tees were in very good shape. Enjoyable lay out, the best of the three we played.

I like the layout of this course, however, there should be flags to identify water hazards that cross into a fairway.
