About Myrtle Beach National - Kings North Course (Myrtle Beach, SC)

An Arnold Palmer design, the Myrtle Beach National Kings North Golf Course sports one of the best-known holes along the Grand Strand. Known as “The Gambler,” the par-5 6th hole is one of the most discussed and photographed, holes there is along the Grand Strand.

Golfers can choose to take the long way around the Gambler Hole via a sharp dogleg to the left or they can opt to lay upon part of the fairway that’s its own island, leaving a mid-iron shot to a green that juts out into the lake. Hit the island and you’re in great shape. Miss it and you’re not, and therein, of course, lays the gamble. Watch out, you may need a few balls if you aren’t accurate with your gamble.

One of the best-conditioned courses in the area, Kings North offers a deal of hole variety and rolling fairways passing through pines, a multitude of ponds and waste areas. Already one of the prettiest courses along the coast, the absence of housing makes it even more so. Even though there are a number of tricky shots to island greens and shots over water, the course is rated as one of the top ones for women, with six sets of tees.

Fairways were lush; lots of traps. Greens were extremely slow and frustrating to put. Clubhouse was old; had to purchase ball which I feel should come with a premium course. I was somewhat disappointed from experience 15 years ago.

Kings North was in excellent condition. The greens were hard and fast. The traps were difficult for me as I think I saw every one of them. Lots of water for added excitement. Great course, we had a ball.

We haven’t played it for several years so we were really impressed with the results of the course renovations. It is a stunning course and the greens were awesome, albeit very challenging. We requested an afternoon tee time and that proved to be a mistake. It was organized chaos waiting for carts for our group which resulted in our 2 foursomes being split up and one group starting on the front and one off the back. My group teed off almost 25 minutes late and both groups finished well over 30 minutes from each other. We all loved the course but would never recommend playing it in the afternoon. Next year we will request a morning tee time to avoid the wait for carts to be returned from the various courses on the property. That being said, we loved King’s North
