For years golfers coming to the Grand Strand have requested The Surf Club for their Myrtle Beach Golf Package. A George Cobb design that opened in 1960 from the vision of Roy Harrelson and Tom Roberts sits on 200 acres two blocks away from the Atlantic Ocean.
The Surf Club located in the City of North Myrtle Beach, was built on a family property owned by Charles Tilghman. After 30 years, the golf course under went renovations by John LaFoy. LaFoy re-did bunkers and added contouring with small mounds to the greens. Shortly there after in 1996, the traditional parkland style layout, changed over to G2 Bent Grass Greens that feature two and three tiers making accuracy key in hitting into greens.
With wide fairways and few fairway bunkers The Surf Club features water on 14 holes including the Par 3 18th hole. A 200 yard, over water to a small green which can make or break your round. The Surf is the third oldest golf course along the Grand Strand behind Pine Lakes Country Club and The Dunes Golf & Beach Club and his one of two golf courses designed by George Cobb along the Grand Strand.
If you have never, and most golfers have not, The Surf Club should defiantly be considered for your next Myrtle Beach Golf Package.
