What you are paying for at Azalea Sands Golf Club
The pedigree
Gene Hamm
A Links Style layout that opened in 1972 and plays to a par of 72 over 6,444 yards.
The test
Slope 123
123 slope across 6,444 yards, which is the sort of card most of the group can post a real number on.
The greens
Bermuda
Putting surfaces are Bermuda. The practice ground carries a chipping green and a putting green, so the speed is no surprise on the first green.

The course
The golf at Azalea Sands Golf Club
Take the golf on its own terms first. Hamm's layout is open rather than tree lined, with water hazards concentrated on the back nine, and the slope of 123 off 6,444 yards makes it the least demanding course here. Reviewers who enjoyed it use words like fun and not too challenging, and the requirement is simply to keep the ball straight. For a group with mixed abilities that is a genuine appeal, and the round should not run long.
The conditioning record is the problem and it needs stating plainly. The average across 103 reviews is 3.01, with only 14 five star ratings against 15 twos and 20 ones. Roughly a third of everyone who reviewed this course gave it two stars or fewer. The complaints are consistent rather than scattered: difficulty finding grass on the course, greens hard with little actual grass on them, fairways and traps described as being in terrible shape. The word terrible appears often enough to register in the review language itself. Some players had a better time, reporting decent overall condition and greens that were fast, but the positive reviews are frequently qualified with a note that some greens are not in good shape.
Service is the second recurring issue. Several reviewers describe staff and starters as rude or as seeming bothered by their arrival, while others found the staff friendly, helpful and courteous. That split matters because it means the experience is not predictable. One reviewer also flagged pairing problems, having been put behind a slower group playing from tees beyond their ability. Reviewers who liked it often credit the company more than the golf. Practice facilities are limited to a putting green and a chipping green, with no driving range on site, so plan to arrive warm. Azalea Sands is defensible as a low cost filler round for a group that values price and an easy walk in the yardage, and hard to justify on any other basis.

Great place, awesome staff, and fun course
Open course with lot of water hazards on the back nine. Lots of fun just have to keep it straight.
Nice course. Some greens not in good shape
over sanded greens and a serious lack of watering, but it's been dry there for months.

It was difficult to find grass on this course. And the staff/starters were way too rude for this much of a dog track.
Greens and fairways in terrible shape
Despite not being overseeded, greens rolled true and EXTREMELY fast. Overall the rest of the course was in fine condition as well
Great choice. Had a good time. Not too challenging
Decent condition overall, very friendly staff.
Course was in ok condition. Greens were hard and not much actual grass on the greens. Played with nice people which made the experience better.
The staff was rude and seemed to be bothered that we even showed up. They could not remember a single name. The staff put a two some in front of us that played from the blue tees and kept duffing the ball. They spent more time looking for their ball in the water and rough. Play was so slow that it took an hour and half for the first 3 holes. We left after that. Will not be back.
Course was fine. Greens were super fast. The carts and staff were friendly, helpful and courteous. I thought it was a good value. Pleased all around.
Fairways not good traps not good
conditions of course were poor - dormant grass
THE COURSE IS GOOD. THE GOLF PATH SUCKS....... I NEED TO REPAIR THOSE
Nice holiday course in good condition but not very testing
greens were terrible
Not a bad course (keep in mind that we are 'beginner' level players). It was loud at times when certain holes were close to the road.
Didn't like this course at all. When I come back down it's on my list of Do Not Play
