Why groups book it
What you are paying for at Oyster Bay Golf Links
The pedigree
Dan Maples
A Ocean-Bay-Waterway layout that opened in 1983 and plays to a par of 71 over 6,685 yards.
The test
Slope 136
6,685 yards and a slope of 136. Enough teeth to be worth the tee time, fair enough that the whole group finishes with a card worth signing.
The greens
Bermuda
Putting surfaces are Bermuda. The practice ground carries a chipping green, a driving range and a putting green, so the speed is no surprise on the first green.
The verdict
3.8 out of 5
Across 1,286 reviews left by golfers who booked through us, 65% scored Oyster Bay Golf Links four stars or better. None of it is edited and none of it is paid for.

The course
The golf at Oyster Bay Golf Links
Oyster Bay Golf Links is the shortest course in this group at 6,685 yards, playing to a par of 71 on Bermuda greens. The slope of 136 sits higher than the yardage would suggest, so the medium difficulty rating is best read as a course that asks for placement rather than power.

- Address
- 614 Lakeshore Dr, Sunset Beach, NC 28468
Its location at 614 Lakeshore Drive in Sunset Beach puts it in the same NC border cluster as the Ocean Isle Beach courses, which makes it straightforward to group into a single day of travel. Practice is well covered, with a chipping green, driving range and putting green on site.
There is not much review evidence to work with. Fifteen reviews are recorded at an average of 3.73, with no star breakdown and no review text available. Fifteen ratings is too small a sample to describe conditioning or service with any confidence, so this one is worth asking your package agent about rather than judging from the score alone.

Layout a 5, greens a 1...understanding how dry it has been, these greens need a complete overhaul
Greens and fairways were good but tee boxes and cart paths were poor. Also outside of fairways the course is in poor condition. Staff were friendly and food was good.
Greens were in below average condition. They start groups on split tees which resulted in huge backups on the course. Cart guys and marshals were impolite. Tons of alligators to see on course.
Course condition for the price was not favorable cart paths very rough, greens and surrounding areas in tough condition. A lot of gators which is cool to see.

Cart paths were in terrible condition. No markings at the holes. No directions to where the next hole is. Can be very confusing for first time players at that course.
The course did not seem to be in great shape based on when I played a handful of years back.
Course was good, would play again. BUT, WILL NEVER PLAY it again. Rangers were absolute A..holes. Threatening to force me to jump forward a hole when we were hole and a half ahead. Both rangers were d..cks from the start.
Treated us well
Great improvement from a few years ago.
They offered breakfast before the round but we were not informed and we ate at hotel.
Greens were in great condition and rolled well.
Great course. Excellent condition.
Cart paths and tee boxes could use a lot of work
I will never play course again do to on course Rangers
Starters and Staff very friendly
Ok, very difficult due to wind conditions
Staff were very courteous and friendly. Course was in great shape even with having gotten close to 3” of earlier in the week
Very good course conditions, excellent lunch.
Great course, in great condition
The course was challenging and beautiful. We saw half a dozen alligators throughout the round.
Greens had been plugged in the last week or would rate it higher.
Excellent golf course
range was nice lunch was great but the greens were in ruff shape
very slow pace of play

Nice course, good staff, showed signs of not yet grown in for the season,.
Course is very nice but condition not great
3rd time, never gets old.
5+ hour round. They are very proud of the gators. Wish they would have had that pride in the course.
Fantastic setup, fun course. The back 9 was fantastic and beautiful. The course player quick and we had a great experience. The course, though, wasn’t in fantastic shape and some of the greens had trouble growing grass.
Loved the scenery and wildlife though the course was a little beat up though. If they put some money into that it would have been my favorite course
Rough around the edges. Would have liked some info about the gators.
Good bones but needs some care
Golf course is a little beat up. Tee boxes and cart paths were rough but the scenery and views were great
Course in fair condition
Great course that needs some TLC. Very little signage to show you around the course.
Lost a few balls......will be back to try and find them one day. Great course!
Need some work especially cart paths. Loved the alligators.
Great course. Excellent condition. Alligators were a treat.
Layout was good, course needs a lot of clean up and cart paths were old and new repair
Fairways and greens were in great shape but the rough was in rough shape in spots. Lost balls we shouldn’t have. Clubhouse desperately needs some updating. Good fun though.
